Omnibus Courts Creation Bill

As Chair of the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee, one of my main duties is to oversee the creation of new courts. This session I was proud to author and pass House Bill 3774, the Omnibus Courts Creation Bill. This bill creates over a dozen new courts across the Lone Star State: 10 district courts, 5 county courts at law and 1 probate court. With our exploding population growth, coupled with the substantial case backlog as a result of COVID, these new courts will go a long way to ensuring continued and unabated access to justice for each and every Texan.

Additionally, HB 3774 also provides a number of other reforms and improvements to our justice system including new remote hearing guidelines, improvements to our Veterans Court programs and the Children’s Commission, and various proposals aimed at increasing judicial efficiency and accessibility. The Texas Justice system is strong – and we’re working hard to make it even stronger!
