Public Education Committee Hearing
June 1, 2026
Today I was at the Texas Capitol participating in a hearing of the House Public Education Committee as we examined key interim charges that will help shape education policy for the next legislative session.
Two of the biggest challenges facing Texas schools are teacher recruitment and retention, and ensuring students with special needs receive the support and opportunities they deserve. As student needs continue to grow, it’s critical that we have a strong educator workforce and effective special education programs that equip every child for success.
I appreciate hearing from educators, parents, and stakeholders as we evaluate the impact of recent legislation, identify areas for improvement, and continue working toward solutions that strengthen public education for students across Texas.
