Lauren & CJ’s Law Passes the Texas House

This is a bill born out of tragedy. In 2015, Lauren and CJ Davis were out celebrating CJ’s 26th birthday, a date night out to a Dallas Mavericks game. While crossing the street on the way to the game, a drunk driver struck and killed them both. It took over three years before a sentence would be delivered and in the end, the man, who had previous DWIs, would only serve 4 months behind bars with a probation.

HB 1760 seeks to prevent injustices such as theirs by mandating that intoxication manslaughter carry a minimum of 5 years imprisonment. When a life is lost due to another’s reckless, dangerous and illegal behavior, we must ensure that the punishment fits the crime.
